Toulouse tournament
14/01/2014
Somewhere in the South-West in France, in a town that smells like dogpoop and vomit and is full of scary old people at windows, they organized a hockey tournament.
A. took a leading role and organized everything from subscription to accommodation and so we left with 6 Orca’s, 1 Koraal, 1 Kiwi and 2 Spanish bulls (also female S. but cow doesn’t sound so appealing). One also known as Alberto, who played with me at my first tournament in Bilzen and a known face for many orca’s.
After I sent a nice text to make sure nobody forgot their Orca swimsuit and arranged one for the non-Orca’s, of course you always have that one “Roland” that forgets it or in this case doesn’t want to wear it (N2!!)But well, we arrived safely, without any vomit of I. on the plane and found our surprisingly clean and comfortable hostel, where we shared 1 room with 8 people. BUNK BEDS!! We had a tasty diner in a fancy restaurant with the most amazing deserts and went to sleep (what you call sleep if someone was snoring all night long => A).
Arriving at the really nice swimming pool of Toulouse with big high stands, we were happy we had games in the 2m side of the pool and not the 4m side: 6 games of 15min on Saturday and 4 games on Sunday. After 2 easier games, we had some tougher games but soon it was clear that we would be able to go for a first spot. After 6 games we were cold but our coach (N.) felt satisfied and felt like a celebration. He tricked us all into his little schemes and made sure we went to his favorite restaurant = the restaurant of the day before. But after again an awesome desert, coffee cocktails with an enormous amount of whiskey and a second desert and stomach ache for the coach, we went to bed.
The next day we made our dream of the weekend come true. With the bulls arriving just in time and after 4 more games, Holy Squid went for the win and got their shiny golden medal and a bottle of French wine!
Thanks to Ward, Andy, Niels, Britt, Niels, Rob, Ine, Alberto and Sylvia for an awesome weekend!
