The CMAS Underwaterhockey World Championships
12/09/2012
The date has been set, the location has been chosen! The next world championships underwaterhockey will be held in Hungary between the 23th of August and the 1st of September.
The tournament is first of all, obviously, divided into 2 categories; the men and the women. For each category there will be 4 different divisions:
- U19
- U23
- Elite
- Master
So in total there will be 8 teams who go home with a golden medal after the last final has been played!
I would like to conclude this first article with a quote from Mr. Reynard, the tournament director and member of the CMAS -Underwaterhockey commission. Note that last world championships where spread out over 2 tournaments, the Agegroups (url) in Dordrecht and the Elite-tournament in Coimbra (url). We had a lot of Orca-players joining, you can find their story here.
“Underwater hockey has a proud tradition of friendliness and camaraderie, which has grown even more prevalent since our first World Championship in 1980. In 2013, these championships look set to be the largest single underwater hockey event ever staged with federations able to enter up to eight teams across the tournament divisions.
The organising team is well underway with preparations and we expect you will all have a very memorable and happy time in the beautiful city of Eger, Hungary.
On behalf of the CMAS Underwater Hockey Commission, I would like to invite you all to attend the 18th World Underwater Hockey Championships.
Tristan Reynard”
