Belgian girls also for the win but didn’t succeed
25/07/2012
And then you the story of 2 belgian girls who wanted to play but they didn’t have a team…
The belgian womens team didn’t go to the tournament because we didn’t have enough girls who where available on the date. I was still a bit sad because after NZ, the hockey part was a bit silent because of summer stop here. But then Stephanie, another Belgian lady invited me to the Munich team because she knew some people there.
I arranged a spot in Jeremy’s car (belgian team guy)and I was ready for an 8 hour drive with 3 guys, Jeremy, Kurt and Steven. Always good fun with the guys from Zuunse Karpers! But then after 300km we had to pick up Sylvain (EPO) from his summercamp somewhere in Germany. And well… 5 people in 1 car for 500km is not that comfortable. Sylvain was there on time with his beautiful
new haircut and with the necessarry stop at MacDonalds (for the sporty people we are), we arrived 3 hours later then planned at 3 AM! Fortunately we found our way through the German forests and rivers and we found our bunkbed.
Me and Stephanie we found a spot in the Munich Fun team. And well…it was not that easy. I had to guide the team as I had the most (recent) experience. And I only have 5 years on my resume. 2 girls played half a year, another guy for 1 year an the rest a bit more. So as you can expect, we weren’t a match for the belgian guys as I hoped. But well at least we had FUN! Nice people from different countries and lots of experience of playing with new people! And thank God for the hottub as the weather was not succesfull as you can read in Yoeri’s report.
The rest of the tournament was also nice to see old friends like Molly and Craig, our lovely friends from the US who visited the Orca team I think 2 or 3 years ago. I think I’m taking Craigs advice and visit them in the near future in Italy (even though Craig drank a couple of beers when he suggested this). I met some other nice people under water and above water like the rest of the Swiss team, the Ljubljana team and of course the Munich people. I really hope they will send a girls team to worlds next year!
Oh and of course the pictures! Thanks to my team for having me and see you guys soon!
